The definition of a Soldier in the United States military includes the capacity to give and sacrifice and National Guard Soldiers are not exempt from this definition. While an Active Duty Soldier’s main employment is being in the military, a National Guard Soldier is held to the same standards as Active Duty while maintaining a full time civilian existence.

A National Guard Soldier will miss the weekend of a friend’s wedding, their child’s birthday party, and other important occasions, as well as a few weeks in the summer to devote their time to maintaining and increasing their skills as members of the United States Military. A Soldier’s duty is to protect, and they may spend months helping to clean up your town after a flood while their own house is still under water. As you sit comfortably in your living room watching television, thousands of Soldiers are enduring heat up to 135 degrees wearing full combat gear, often sleeping in tents or minimal accommodations, and offering to make the ultimate sacrifice to pay for the freedom of others with their life if needed.

These men and women are your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers and like all people, sometimes they need some rest and relaxation. That’s the purpose of the Operation High Tech Campaign. Your local National Guard Unit, Delta 1-148th Infantry, is deploying and will spend one long year in a combat zone far from their families and loved ones.

The purpose of “Operation High Tech” is to aid in the morale and welfare of the troops by sending them portable “toys” to help them pass the time, such as laptops, MP3 players, DVD’s, a video projector, video games, etc.
